Born and raised on the beautiful island of Guam, JPOGI, a staple name in the island nightlife, grew from the ranks of a mobile party DJ to a featured DJ on some of Guam’s biggest radio stations. His beginnings in the industry started with residencies in the island club scene at the age of 18 and grew to popularity in the next few years as a “music breaker”.

In 2006, he began venturing out from the “typical” island DJ style of reggae, dancehall, hip-hop, and RnB, by grasping some new music from the west coast by the genre of Hyphy. JPOGI helped start a movement of Hyphy music in Guam around 2005 where it became a mainstay for the next couple years in the club scene at Hard Rock Café every Friday night.

After years of debating, JPOGI decided to move from Guam in the year 2007 and venture out to the mainland US where he brought his talents to Los Angeles.

Starting off from the bottom of the barrel, he worked his way through the ranks of the Los Angeles night scene, working in particular with the “Moonshinerz”. The Moonshinerz consisted of Power 106 DJ/Producer DJ Ingwell, as well as half of the EDM Producing group Subshockers, Teddy Bomber. Thanks to the guidance of Tim Vinzon, brother of Ingwell and Teddy bomber, JPOGI gained residencies in venues around Hermosa Beach, Hollywood, Long Beach, and other areas of Los Angeles.

JPOGI then garnered a lot of recognition when he worked with the Power 106 street team member, Mitchell Deguzman. They created a series of mixtapes that were featured on the Power106.com, with brand new music as well as featured music and shoutouts from artists like Swizz Beats, Mac Miller, Kid Ink, YG, Ariana Grande, Ty Dolla, among other numerous artists.

From his time in Los Angeles, JPOGI has done events in Seattle, Hawaii, Houston, San Diego, Fresno, as well as the Philippines and the island of Saipan. Eventually, after gaining much knowledge and experiences, he made his way back to his home to Guam.

In the next few years during his stay in Guam, JPOGI has played at some of the biggest clubs in Guam, which include Lush Nightclub, Globe Nightclub, the Pentagon, Shamrocks, Drop, Cowboy Ninja, Ralphy’s, Gecko, Porkys, and the Venue. He also has been a part of the #SupportLocal movement by working with the likes of local apparel companies such as Crowns Guam, Opake, TheNative, LongLive, The Colosseum, and Stussy Guam, by providing music to numerous events and even throwing his own events. From Grand Openings of stores to clothing apparel releases, car shows, art exhibits, and even a Rugby Tournament, JPOGI has been around the whole spectrum of what Guam has to offer when in need of a DJ.

With all these functions under his belt, JPOGI was recently recognized as Guam’s 2014/2015/2016/2017 Best Club DJ by the Guam Island Music Awards. Big events that JPOGI has done over the last few years have included, The Road Back to Electric Island Festival, Electric Island Festival, Opening DJ set for Steve Aoki, Acoustic Attack Live, Hush: Rewind, Heineken White Party, as well as some NON-Profit events like the Make-A-Wish Gala with the band TBA (Throwback Allstars), the Annual Guam Koko 5k Run, Touch Rugby Tourney, FIBA 3×3 Tourney, Atkins Kroll Guam Sneaker Meet, and the Guam Art Exhibit (GAX). You can also find JPOGI on the radio where you can hear his mixes on the airwaves of one of Guam’s biggest radio stations, Hit Radio 100, where he breaks new music and different genres with his open-format mixes.
